The Birch Leaf Pendant
Tatted Birch Leaf pendent in a rich evergreen color. I just got the color in and love how deep it is. I think it will make a striking Gala necklace at some point. I am currently working on a Gala for the Spring that uses a lighter leafier green and the blossoms are shades of peach, lilac, lavender and purple. I truly enjoy making organic designs of flowers and leaves. This Leaf is suspended with Sterling on supple brown Italian leather.
I added an olive colored leaf and deep Terra Cotta Diana butterfly to a Sterling brooch to make the next design. She has reddish purple glass beading in her wings and a metallic purple Czech glass bead in her center. The Beads in the leaf are matte and have a greenish brown color that I like. It looks less “glam” and more natural. Diana has been stiffened to curve her wings and antennae. Mounted on off-white fabric with batting behind it, Diana and her leaf are securely glued to the brooch base and the prongs are clamped to add more security.
Mounted on a 3″x3″ metal box, an orange and salmon Sophie buzzes out of clusters of Teeny Tat flowers and fly-stitched leaves. She has a little beading in her wings in a matching pink color and a Swarovski crystal sparkling in the center of her body. I made her with the finest cordonnet to make her as small as possible. Her colors remind me of orange creamsicles or yogurt. The background is a white on white floral cotton. The handmade light silver cable has a metallic thread spun into it for a delicate glitter around the edges of the garden. The 2″ deep interior is fully lined with fuchsia felt. Sophie’s Garden is gentle and feminine to me.
This is The Orange Blossom. A mini keepsake that only measures 2″ across. I made a multi-layer flower I call “Frilly Fleur” in shades of light and harvest orange…I felt the creamsicle effect again. The flower itself took over two hours to carefully graduate the chains and make sure the picots were uniform throughout. I mounted the flower on cream colored linen and sewed glass beading in clear yellow, cream, and silver-lined clear in a radiating pattern. The center is an orange Cat’s Eye bead. The handmade cable edge was made with two shades of soft green and the interior was fully lined with matching felt. Orange Blossom. Yummy.
And another mini keepsake…Butterscotch Blaze. Butterscotch because that is the name of the fantastic saturated yellow thread and Blaze because it just seems to be on fire! My lovely tatted Double Flutter PIXIE butterfly has glass beading tatted into the wings and a small round Red Bamboo Coral bead in the center. The Teeny Tat flower is gold and Terra Cotta colored with a red crystal and tiny leaves below it. The cotton fabric the garden is mounted on is absolutely gorgeous saturated shades from green to Carnelian red, red hot orange and deep yellow. There are gold swirls and lines embossed on the fabric. Ooooo…I just LOVE the color!
My mini keepsakes just tickle my fancy in general. Love it! And I hope you are enjoying it as well! You can find more work in the left menu or in my shop http://snappytatter.etsy.com.
