Sparkling Flakes in Glass

New and only made this one time! Small heavily beaded snowflakes suspended invisibly inside crystal clear ornaments for your tree! This labor of love was delightful and not without it’s trials as I worked to get exactly what I wanted.

You can find all available Snappy Tatter ornaments here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/SnappyTatter?ref=seller-platform-mcnav

Essentially, I took a snowflake like this: 2010_09200004csm

Then I beaded it something like this: I added beads as I tatted and hand-sewed them in after the flake was finished as well. Below is one of my Cocktail Rings that has been sold and a good example of the amount of beading involved in each snowflake.

I used Czech seed beads in Silver-lined clear and gold, and clear with Aurora Borealis coating that gives a multi-color shimmer, Mill Hill seeds that were opaque white, pale transparent green and translucent periwinkle blue. I also used fringe beads that are tear drop shaped. I hand-sewed these beads into the lace on both sides so there is little difference as it rotates inside the ornament. For center beads I used Swarovski crystal pearls, crystal clear and wonderfully faceted Celestial Crystals with and without Aurora Borealis coating and faceted and smooth Rondelles in green, blue, gold and clear.

The result is shimmery, sparkling, brilliant snowflakes inside seamless glass balls! The actual glass ornaments are well made and do not have a fragile feel about them, at all. I had to “man handle” them quite a bit to get the flakes inside. Lol.

You can find the listing here among my other available and made-to-order snow: https://www.etsy.com/shop/SnappyTatter?ref=seller-platform-mcnav&section_id=10834973

Have cats? Have wee kids? I have ornaments much more delicate than this and I hang them high (of course) but also hang them from the ends of curtain rods and seldom used fan pulls or light shades. Just a few ideas. These are being sold as a set so they will come safely in the packaging of the glass balls. If I ever find another set of glass that is so seamless (and affordable), I may make another set but until then, these will be one-of-a-kind. Let me know if you have questions or would like more photos!

More Mandalas!!!

I have been having a wonderful, relaxing, time hand drawing these Mandalas with my digital software. They are available in my Etsy shop and people are loving them!

I sent a few to my little sister and her daughters to color and they have done BEAUTIFUL work!

I LOVE IT!!!

Mandala means “circle” in Sanskrit. When used for meditation, tracing or coloring a Mandala has been shown to reduce stress and pain, lower blood pressure, and ease depression among other benefits. Take a moment out of each day, relax, and just focus on adding colors to the design one by one and feel the world melt away!

These newest additions are available in my Etsy shop under the “Printables to Color” section.

I have great news here in Snappy Tatter-land, as well. I have started a new treatment for my chronic illness and am beginning to go into remission. I am still getting used to my life again but things are looking very promising so far. So you know what this means…more work, new designs, more listings, more social media…and just more living. God is good to me. Sometimes I just have to get out of my way.

Thank you everyone for your love, support and patience while I try to get back on my feet!

Live, Love, Tat…and all that!!!

Snappy Mandalas

Some of you may know that when I am not tatting, I draw. Drawing is relaxing to me. I found a great feature in my Corel digital drawing software that allows me to make Mandalas. I figured, as much as people like to fill these in with color, is about how much I enjoy drawing them myself. Late at night, when I feel like doing something relaxing, I set up my software and draw on my laptop while we watch The Walking Dead or The 100…

These designs are from my Etsy shop. You can download larger versions without the watermark by purchasing any of them in the Printables to Color section. I would love to know what everyone thinks. Leave a comment below!

We like to move it, move it!

There have been changes here at home where we welcome late spring weather, graciously. Jay has been avidly gardening a large 30′ x 30′ plot on our half acre. I have been working on a smaller flower garden and have plans to prune the overgrown honeysuckle and lilac. It is amazing how different everything looks compared to when we purchased this house and land last year around this time! The lawn is actually a green lawn! We spend a lot of times in the mountains and have purchased a small camper so we can make overnight stays comfortable.

Adorable, right? This photo is from Mosquito Flat Reservoir.

Another change in Snappy Tatter-land was the re-working of one of my Couture designs. As you know, my Couture work is one-of-a-kind, wearable, fiber art that takes hours and days to design and create. Sometimes, something I have created just doesn’t sit right with me. That is true of Flyaway Butterfly Gala. I did not like the way the center butterfly sat. It didn’t look attractive to me and I felt I could do better. So I dismantled it some time ago with the intention of reworking that center piece. FINALLY, I got to it with everything that has been going on in the last couple of years. Yes, it can take me that long to get to something now. Between moving, living, my neurological condition, and the things that make up daily life, it took me time to get back to Flyaway. But, I am grateful I did. I love what developed so much more than what it was. By now I have more butterfly patterns under my wing (so to speak) so I chose Gloria to take up the space of the butterfly I did not prefer. She is 3-D, which I love, and is a magnificent crescendo in this modern display of natural delights.

I love this so much more!!! In the new version of Flyaway, a Vivien Butterfly tags along at the bottom giving the bib necklace a better “plunge” look and the extra PIXIE butterfly was added at the top to attach around the neck, mirroring the other side. Instead of stabilizing the work with trimmed and sealed organza on the backside, I added flesh tone rings where stability was needed. The butterflies are more transparent and look bolder. Flyaway is available in my Etsy shop in the J Kohr Couture section! I would love to hear what you have to say about the Flyaway transformation. Please feel free to comment below!

Thanks everyone for stopping into Snappy Tatter-land. Feel free to use coupon code “LOVELACE” for free domestic shipping…it’s still active for a limited time!

Here Fishy Fishy!!!

My second fish is swimming into Snappy Tatter-land! In lilac and peach with berry colored seeds and silver lined gold glass for a “pop”…this brilliant little fish turned out perfect! Fishy Fishy has perfect Swarovski crystals embedded in the tail and front fin. The rocailles that make the gold stripe along her back have a square hole making them more sparkly than regular round beads. I have made long Strand earrings that match, too!

Fishy Fishy is listed on Etsy in my J Kohr Couture section of my Etsy shop.

More work and news is coming to Snappy Tatter-land soon. I did not get into the magazine that had messaged me. That is fine. Although the Editor loved my work, the publisher was not as interested. The jewelry designers in the magazine are fabulous but the work is more traditional than my handmade lace. Still, it is nice to be noticed and she did ask me to submit pieces in the future if I am interested.

I am getting through the most difficult part of the year with my chronic illness a little easier because of the nerve blocks I get. So that is good news.  I hope I can stay on top of Snappy Tatter things better. I just try to take it day by day. God gives me what I need and I try to be as helpful to my fellows as possible! Everything works out better when I live that way!

Hearts for your Valentine

P1250477

Valentine’s Day is coming and I have been thinking of Heart’s. One of my very first necklace designs years ago was called “Heart’s Desire”. It was a white string of hearts with wee periwinkle seed beads tatted into it. It was the first item of mine to sell when I joined the Blue Heron Gallery. It sold for a mere $20, I believe, before I was paying myself a livable wage and taking things like hours of tatting, packaging, travel and materials into consideration. Silly business expenses. Lol.
Years later, I was going to recreate the necklace as I only created it that one time but I altered it slightly and decked it out in brilliant multicolor beading instead…and now “Heart String” has been born. Using heavier weight cordonnet and beading as I go, this is a sturdy work. Now I have to design an owl…lol. That goes on the to-do list.

I also created a pair of earrings called “Valentine“. I will be recreating those in the future in different variations. Heart String will remain one-of-a-kind, belonging to my J Kohr Couture collection because the beading was quite intense and took hours.

Dreamer photos

The Dreamer embroidery framing is finally finished. Goodness gracious that was a process. I tried a couple different frames, different styles of matting, glass and acrylic glazing…I finally came up with this simple silver frame that has enough depth it could be used in a shadowbox manner. I found fantastic 8-ply heavyweight archival matting that is perfect. So no matter how hard I try…I cannot seem to get my Dreamer fiber painting to have a crisp photo for Etsy. The detail photos are all crisp, the color perfect, and I am happy with them but the framed one will not translate to a crisp photo. The actual photo in my computer is perfect and needed little editing. So I am posting the photo here for a reference for potential patrons. Click on the photo to be taken to the actual Snappy Tatter listing. Enjoy!
