The Flutter Butterfly Garden Box was made for the Blue Heron Art Gallery. Flutter earned its name for the three tiny Pixie butterflies that embellish the garden in 3-D. I “froze” them in flight with a special compound. The background is a Blackwork embroidery in saturated teal blue and soft yellow. Vining stems and leaves were made with cotton floss in teal and leaf green. I like to combine thread colors for more depth and congruency. The salmon colored flowers are free hand fly stitch in a rayon thread that has a beautiful shine. Accents with yellow french knots make the flowers complete. This was a labor of love. Truly. The stiffened butterflies are positioned to appear fluttering about the flowers. The entire box is lined with evergreen colored felt. This little delight measuring 3 1/2″ x 2 3/4″ sold at the Blue Heron Art Gallery in Volant.
