Hey ladies…The Camelia Bobbies are ready!

I am so glad I had this give away contest to name my new flower design. It was nice to hear flower names that I wouldn’t have thought of. Camelia is perfect for this design. Thank you Debbie A.! Your pink and white full size Camelia is done and ready to ship. Heidi, yours is the smaller one in Terra Cotta and a variegated cord called “spice cake”. It is a different version with 12 petals instead of ten. It is denser and a little flatter. I hope you like it. And for Christine, a black and medium charcoal 10 petal small version. It is less cupped than the larger one but I like it just as much as the other ones.

~New Camelia Bobby Pins~

The large black and silver one in my hair is my own. It took me about 20 shots to get a good picture of the back of my head. Yes, the pink is back in my hair! 🙂

The Camelias will be invading my shop by the end of the week. There are over 35 color options not including several variegated colors to choose from. Watch facebook for their listings.

The Bobbies will ship tomorrow! I hope you all like them!

Sunflowers popping up everywhere!

~SUNFLOWERS!~

I recently received a request in my shop, Snappy Tatter, for matching earrings for my Sunflower pendant. Fun! I was able to make my Dainty design into little Sunflowers with more frilly picots and the perfect beading. In the process I created a larger Sunflower that I turned into a bracelet. It was my first attempt to make an earring but was larger than I wanted and the beading wasn’t quite right to match the pendant. It is my first time using the metal bracelet blanks I bought awhile ago. I really like the result. The flower is stiffened for structure and attached to the blank with an industrial resin. Here is the result, peeps!

The metal cuff is one-of-a-kind, so snap it up if you like it! Here are the links to the Sunflower listings that are in my shop:

The finalists and the winner of the “Name that Flower” Give-away!

I am loving so many of the flower name entries that I have received and am inspired to use many of your suggestions for future designs.

I found three of the entries very intriguing for the general design. And yes, Christine, I love “Bella Noir” for the specific bobby that was shown. I was looking for a more general name that could be used with any color combination. And I was looking for a feminine name that was visually close to the design. I perused the internet via my own search and your links and I came up with these three finalists…

~The Lenten Rose~

entered by Heidi O.

~The Camelia~

entered by Debbie A.

~The Gardenia~

entered by Monica B.

This was very hard to choose and I slept on it but the same winner keeps coming to mind…Debbie Arnold who entered the Camelia!

I love the tight, rounded, overlapping features of the Camelia. And visually, when I put the photos side by side, the Camelia jumps out as the closest flower to my design. Congratulations Debbie! And thank you for naming my newest flower design! You can choose up to two colors in the photo below and I will tat this new design for you and create a bobby pin with a pearl center. I can also make a brooch. Contact info is at the bottom of this post.

Because the choice was so difficult, there are runner-ups in this contest. Yay!

Heidi O., thank you for the Lenten Rose. Monica B., thank you for the Gardenia. In the future I will be working to create more accurate representations of both of these flowers. And Christine B., I looooove your enthusiasm 🙂 and must admit that Bella Noir is a beautiful name for the black and silver flower. The three of you will each get their own Bobby in a smaller size (2 layers instead of 4) in up to two colors.

So-Debbie, Heidi, Monica and Christine, please choose a primary color and secondary color by number or letter from the photo above and send the information in a Facebook message or comment below, or to my email address: jjskohr@embarqmail.com.

Thank you to all the ladies who participated! You can many more hair accessories in this section of my Etsy shop. This was so much fun. Stay tuned for the next Give-away and more Snappy Tatter happenings!

More pics of the Prize flower!

Do you know how hard it is to photo the back of your own head without a tripod…or another person for that matter. I decided to photo my hair because I am wearing the unnamed flower in my hair today. And yes, my hair is a normal color right now, no pink. Ha! Closeups of these pics may not be too crisp but you can get the idea of how it looks.

And to answer some questions that have popped up: Yes, I can make it smaller. Yes I can make it in one color instead of two. Yes it can be bigger as well, and flatter too. And I would be happy to make it into a brooch instead of a bobby pin.

What flower does this Snappy Tatter design make you think of? Keep the answers coming. I’m getting some good ones!

p.s. I’ll let you know if you have given me a name that has already been entered. 🙂

I tatted the blues…

A recent custom request from a Snappy Tatter customer led me to working with greens and blues, not colors I normally work with except for leaves. I do have a nice collection of blues and greens from baby blue to navy to teal but my mind is always drawn to warm colors.

P1140045

Sometimes working outside your normal palette forces you to use your color study skills to create something that is well coordinated. The main issue with this project was the customer’s choice of turquoise that is very bright and a forest green that is muted. This issue was solved with the customer’s choice of a variegated cord that drew the blue into the green gradually.

My customer proudly told me “Texas girls love lots of bling”. So I further blended the colors with hand sewn beading which is all Czech glass and Swaroski crystals.

The finished work is this lovely cool color Flair set of jewelry finished with Sterling jewelry components and silver organdy ribbon.
