I forgot the pattern :p

Empress Cuff in my favorite color

Yes, I forgot to write down the pattern. Lol. I create my own designs here in Snappy Tatter-land. I often experiment with new ideas and push myself to create work that is unusual and elegant. I don’t even remember making the bracelet in the picture above. I keep my laceworks in small packages in trays of “to be finished” works. Since we moved this past fall I have been slowly putting my studio together in my new room and I came across my stash of unfinished lacework. I found this pattern and thought, “how lovely…surely I wrote down the pattern as I made it.” Well, I did not. Ugh. :p But I felt it was worth recreating to sell in my Etsy shop so I set about trying to figure out what the h-e-double hockey sticks I had done to create this! Oh boy. With my strongest readers on I flipped and flopped the work back and forth to try to count the knots, figure out where the joins were, and write it all down. Then I grabbed my shuttles and started tatting away, making corrections and timing myself as I went along.

Ultimately, it is not exactly the same as the orange one although it will take a keen eye to see what is different. Nevertheless it is just as elegant and ornate as the original. It took HOURS to create. It may not look like it but there are four rounds to the design. I chose to call it “Empress” because it reminds me of the kind of lace royalty would wear. It is amazingly detailed and was tedious to create. The orange one is for me. It is my favorite color and the perfect shade of orangey-red to me. The black one can be found in this Etsy listing: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1014202509.

I try to always write my patterns down. I may actually have it somewhere and just didn’t look hard enough. Anyhoo-now it is done and diagrammed for future production. I hope you like it. It is ready to ship in black but I can make it in about 47 different colors.

That’s what’s up in Snappy Tatter-land!

Moving and Grooving

our new home awaits

We are in the process of moving back east, closer to where I am from. I grew up in northern PA and lived in Pittsburgh for most of my adult life. We found this adorable Cape Cod in WV and will be moving in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, my Etsy shop is in Vacation Mode as most of my tatting and jewelry supplies are packed. Although I am unable to create new work, the work that is available in this shop is already made and can be shipped promptly. Up until a week before we move, I will be able to sell and ship from here.

I also have new work listed for sale. You can find them in the categories on the left side of my page where you can shop. Here are photos of what is new: Flash earrings, Daisy Chain Bracelet, Decadence Cuff, Double Halo Bracelet, Flair Cuff, Shell Pendant, Innocence Choker, Tendril Necklace, Frilly Flourish two-tone Pendant

Feel free to shop to your heart’s delight here in Snappy Tatter-land! I will keep you posted when I move and my Etsy shop is up and running again. In the meantime…packing, packing, packing. Ugh!!!

I got married!

Actually, I was married to Jay Rickert on June 18th of this year but a bunch of things interrupted my ability to tell all of you until now. I figure, it’s never too late to share that I got married!!!

I married the most wonderful man. I have always felt an almost magical connection to Jay, a joyful and deeply intimate connection. When we first were together I drew the portrait behind his head from a photo he had sent to me. We were still 2300 miles apart and our romance was budding long distance although we had both flown to meet each other by the time I had drawn this. I have never felt so close to someone as when I drew this portrait. That I did not expect. Jay looks a little weepy, a joyous weepy. This photo was taken the day he married me.

So, about the wedding…

We actually were married for less that $200, which is a feat in itself and deserves talking about. My little sister and her family came from Kansas to help us pull everything together a couple of days before the wedding. Mia, my sister, and my nieces, Marissa and Vanessa, helped me get dressed and Larry, my brother-in-law, help Jay get our modest venue prepared.

Tatting the days away while wearing out my chair…

As many of you know, I have been under the weather with my seasonal asthma attack. It’s going on 2 weeks now since I got sick and up until the last 2 days it has been kicking my ass. While I recuperate from the insidious meds I have to take that make me both better and worse, I thought I would share a simple gallery of fresh work. All of these items can be found in my online shop, Snappy Tatter. Eventually I will be back at my drafting table finishing all the tatting that I have been creating while I have been stuck in my chair awake 21 hours a day. Then I will have a really big gallery to share!

One of my simplest and favorite styles, the Flash Drips:

Flash Drip earrings with pewter glass

My new “Grace” style in silver:

Grace with glass Swarovski pearls

I am currently working on a very tedious off white version of Grace that will be a bracelet that is delicate and feminine.

A new Halo bracelet with heavier cord, large glass pearls and a Sterling toggle clasp. I’m thinking bridal jewelry, simple yet elegant.

Wisp earrings in mint green with matching glass pearls and silver-lined rocailles:

Soon I will add photos of 9 pointed medallions I have been designing for a fellow fiber artist in Oregon. I am also working on a new Phoenix design for a customer that should be finished and photoed at the beginning of the week. It is a simpler version to fit her budget  better as this fully beaded design is very labor intensive. I try to be accommodating when it is possible in my jewelry designs.

I am working on tatted roses, which I will return to after I post this. And I am very close to finishing a nice, comfy, heavy poncho for winter. And no, it is not tatted! That would be insanity. It is crocheted, which can be a refreshing change for me from time to time. It’s sooooo much faster.

Don’t forget to get your Free Dainty Flake Snowflake this month! Make any purchase from my Etsy shop, Snappy Tatter and start trimming your tree early with a wee snowflake from me! Just leave me a message during checkout that you would like your Flake and I will include it in your order!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
