The Dragonfly Disco

The Dragonfly Disco is my favorite Garden Box…I think. Who am I kidding. I love them all! This one is especially fun. The Majestic Dragonfly is my own tatting pattern and is frequently found on my Etsy site as a pendant. This particular bug has a black twisted body-a technique I designed myself, and deep teal wings embellished with jewel-tone seed beads in royal blue. The body has tiny black rocailles going up the center. A black crystal with a blue-green metallic coating makes the center of the body “pop”. The background is white damask Aida cloth that has a gorgeous sheen. A hand embroidered Blackwork vine in evergreen with rich silk ribbon leaves are the basis for bunches of tiny tatted blossoms that surround the garden. All leaves and flowers are embellished with tiny glass rocailles and seed beads. To glam this design up even more I stitched more silver-lined clear rocailles randomly throughout the background. The result is a whimsical Dragonfly dancing about glittery flowers and leaves in highly saturated colors. The 3 3/4″ x 2 1/2″ metal box is edged with cream satin cording and fully lined with deep blue felt. It is currently at The Blue Heron Art Gallery in Volant, PA.
